It's the quality of your relationship with yourself, rather than the external circumstances of your life that determine your level of happiness. Have a read of the following stories and see which person you would rather be:
Person A works hard and is successful. He feels stressed and tired a lot, and that there is not enough time in the day. Although everyone would say he’s confident and strong, on the inside he’s not so sure about that. He has a few areas of his life that frustrate him and he’s not sure what he can do about them. Sometimes he wonders if this is as good as it gets.
Person B doesn’t work as hard as A but she is successful too. She jumps out of bed each morning, and she has enough energy to do what she needs for the day. She knows who she is, and what she wants from life. She has the confidence to deal with whatever life throws at her. She is very clear on what is important to her in her life and she focuses her time and attention on these areas. She is fulfilled and satisfied with her life.
If you look at both of these people, they are both 38, professionals, and in long term relationships with children, but here is the difference: Person B understands that having a good relationship with herself = a happy and fulfilled life.
